Mini Sephora Haul

Hey!

Last year I did my first ever Sephora haul from Paris. This year, I am coming at you with another mini Sephora haul, also from Paris (photos from the trip coming soon)! I was lucky enough to have a Sephora nearby my hotel in the mall next to us.

The first thing I think of when I think of Sephora is their face masks. So, I picked up a few. Their face masks are sheet masks, meaning they're super easy to apply. You're able to mix and match them like a pick 'n' mix and they're at a very affordable price.

The first one I picked up is the Sephora Avocado face mask which is for nourishing and repairing. I used this mask last year (and reviewed it), and really enjoyed it.

The second one that caught my eye was the Pearl face mask, for perfecting and brightening. I normally always go for face masks designed for acne or for dry skin, so I wanted to try something a bit different. Plus, the idea of pearl caught my eye!

The last mask I picked up was the Charcoal nose strip. I don't remember seeing these last year and I wanted to get it because I have not done a charcoal nose trip in years. They're good for pulling out blackheads and other impurities.

In usual Sephora style, I was also given a sample of the Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum. I didn't notice I had been given this until I got home from Paris, which is a little annoying as I had forgotten to bring my perfume with me so this would have been useful!

I was also mesmerised by the Kat Von D stand they had. I knew France recently got Kat Von D Beauty in store, so I was hoping to see it! Although we can buy Kat Von D Beauty from Debenhams here in the UK, it's only online which means you can't see the colours in person. I made sure I took a good look at the formulas and colours of different items so I know what I want to buy when I can.

I am a bit disappointed I didn't buy any make up, but I knew I didn't have enough euros left to buy anything. I nearly bought a nude lip liner, but forced myself to put it down for the sake of having euros. I will try to bring more next time!

February Favourites

I haven't done a monthly Favourites post in a long while so thought I'd bring it back again this month!

1. Monkl Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette- This was a Christmas present from my friend Ruby. I have been enjoying a particular shade from the palette this month which is the first shade- a glittery silver. I have been loving this colour as a base colour on my eyelid and it goes well with multiple crease colours. On a night out I have used black to create a smokey eye and in the day time I have used a purple which I absolutely loved the combination of! I find this colour becomes more pigmented as well with a damp brush so prefer to use it that way. It also makes for a fab inner corner highlight!

2. Urban Decay Aferglow 8-Hour Highlighter 'Sin'- I bought this beautiful highlighter with a gift card after eyeing it up for 6 months. The packaging is stunning to match the stunning silvery highlight. It goes on sheer so you can build it up depending on how bold you want your highlight to be and is easy to blend. This also makes for a fab inner corner highlight.

3. Real Techniques Your Picks: Berlin 'Base Shadow Brush'- Although this is a base eyeshadow brush, I've actually been loving using it to blend out the edges of my crease colour. Although I do use a crease brush first to pack on the colour, I find it is far easier to blend the edges out for a less harsh line with this fluffy brush. I reviewed the whole set on my blog so be sure to check that out!

4. Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer- This is a cult favourite for all beauty bloggers and I am certainly late to the bandwagon but I can see what the hype is about now! I've been loving how easy it is to start lightly and then build it up if necessary. The perfect bronzer colour which is also good for subtle contouring.

5. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick 'Exorcism'- I have been wanting this browny-red vampire colour for ages so when my friend Antonia bought it for me for Christmas I was ecstatic. It's not as good at layering as 'Lolita' is but nevertheless I still love it and it doesn't have to be a bold lip that takes forever to apply. LOVE this colour!

Beauty Haul | Urban Decay, Benefit etc!

Hello!

It had been a long time since I went to the shops and just shopped, browsed the make up section etc so yesterday I decided to remedy this with Christmas gift cards in hand.

I first of all went into Boots, which I was most excited about. I can't remember the last time I went in and just looked at everything and bought what took my fancy!

I noticed it was 3 for 2 on Eylure, so I picked up 3 pairs of eyelashes as I didn't have any left in my collection. I always used to wear fake eyelashes on nights out and special occasions but I just hadn't got round to buying more. I like more natural one's that don't look heavy but still make my eyelashes look fuller and longer. I chose: Naturals No. 33, Naturals. 020 and Lengthening No. 116. I am particularly interested in trying No. 33 has it is an angled lash with a lengthening finish so I am hoping they will look amazing with winged eyeliner and give a feline look to the eyes.

Then I picked out the Collection Powered by Witch Mattifying Pore Minimiser Primer as I noticed that morning I was coming to the end of my primer. I picked this one because I like witch hazel for acne and my friend recommended it. An absolutely budget friendly primer too so it will be great if it is good!

After, I went over to the Benefit counter. I love Benefit but rarely buy anything from there due to their prices and me liking to save my pennies. However, I thought I'd treat myself by getting the cult favourite Hoola bronzer. I was confident I would like it as everyone and their dog seems to like it so I am looking forward to giving it a go!

Then of course, I also had to lastly pick up my holy grail Batiste dry shampoo. I have spoken about this dry shampoo way too much on my blog as I just can't live without it.

I then went over to John Lewis to check out the Urban Decay counter where I saw the Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter in 'Sin'. My friend and I had seen it back in June when we were travelling in Berlin and I instantly fell in love with it. I had been thinking about it ever since so I just went for it! I had space for a decent highlighter in my make up collection and I am extremely excited to use it.

That was it for my make up items. It isn't pictured but I additionally went into Topshop and picked up a 'night out' dress which was on sale from £39.00 to £15.00! My friend spotted it and I fell in love. It is a tight nude coloured dress with black lace overlay and spaghetti straps. There is also another spaghetti strap forming a 'V' over the chest which is what had particularly drawn me to it.

Real Techniques Your Picks: Berlin Brushes

Hey!

Throughout 2016 I was finding that many of my older make up brushes, from Seventeen, were coming off their handles. I was trying to use stubbly little brushes without the handles, so I knew it was time for some new make up brushes!

These are the Real Techniques Your Picks: Berlin brushes which were bought for me for Christmas. This design was voted for by fans of Real Techniques to represent art found in Berlin. As you can see, they are white with black splodges, with pink at the end of the handles.

The brush handles are heavier than I'm used to with Real Technique brushes but I suppose that helps give more precision. There are five brushes: Buffing brush, contour brush, stippling brush, deluxe crease brush and base shadow brush.

  • Buffing Brush: For full coverage powder and mineral foundation application. I haven't used it for applying foundation yet as I love my RT Expert Face Brush for that. Instead, I've been using it to apply my powder which is quite good at applying it over large areas. As mentioned, it is fab for full coverage because of its density!

  • Contour Brush: Before this brush I was using a small powder/face brush from Seventeen. Now I've got this contour brush I can contour so much easier. However, because it is dense I need to ensure that I only use a small amount of contour otherwise it starts to go stripey! It's description also says it's good for highlighter so will need to check that out.

  • Stippling Brush: I've read that this is good for an airbrushed look for all types of make up and I honestly agree. I've been using this to stipple over my face after applying foundation and concealer and I'm seeing a difference! Not only does my concealer look more blended in to the foundation but the foundation looks like a part of my skin! It looks flawless and definitely evens out any build up of foundation.

  • Deluxe Crease Brush: This brush is very soft and not dense like the other brushes. I like it best for blending out the edges of my crease colour and under eye colour so the lines aren't harsh.

  • Base Shadow Brush: Another soft brush! I use this to apply my base colour as it is wide but I also like it for blending out the edges of my crease colour too. Love a good multi-task make up brush!

The only fault I can pick with these brushes is that when I got them, there was a bristle coming out of my deluxe crease brush which wouldn't come out. After my first time cleansing the brushes I then had a few bristles come out like that with my other brushes. I haven't had this happen before with Real Technique brushes so it is a bit annoying but hopefully it is just a fault in my own set and not a fault with them in general.

This brush set retails for £24.99 but is currently on sale at £18.74.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick 'Lolita'

Hey!

Your girl Briony is back! Beginning University overwhelmed me so much I didn't have time for blogging. However, I've started to really miss it lately so I'm going to try get back into it.

Many months ago I mentioned that my brother went to America and so I asked him to bring me back Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in 'Lolita', before it came to the UK through Debenhams. Today I thought I'd share my review on it!

First of all, can we just say that the 14 year old emo girl in me was screaming when I learned that Kat Von D had her own beauty line. Her artwork is incredible which is beautifully represented on the lipstick packaging in the form of roses. All the artwork on her beauty products just calls out to me.

Lolita is a beautiful brown nude- perfect to go with most make up looks. I absolutely adore the colour and the more layers it has, the browner it looks.

When I first applied this lipstick I didn't have much experience with liquid lipsticks so it was definitely difficult. However, the doefoot applicator is the perfect size for application and over time I have found it easier. By no means am I a liquid lipstick, application expert but I am certainly better! But put it this way- if I was in a rush to get out the door and needed quick make up this wouldn't be my go to lipstick.

The colour dries beautifully matte, which is my favourite finish, and doesn't feel too drying. It is definitely long lasting so I can trust it on a night out or when I am eating. The colour makes my lips look bigger and plumper too, which is a bonus!

To be honest, the only bad thing I can say about this lipstick is that after a couple of reapplications it starts to show up the lines on your lips. This doesn't bother me too much but it is something to consider.

Overall I absolutely adore this lipstick and is actually my FAVOURITE lipstick in my collection. I always come back to it and I've already got a back up! The colour with a thin application is like no other colour I've seen. Love, love, LOVE!

You can buy this lipstick online Debenhams for £16.00. I've since bought another Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick and I'm very likely to buy more!

What do you think of these liquid lipsticks?

Travel | Berlin, Germany

Hello!

Berlin was my second destination in my interrailing experience. To read my post on my first destination, Amsterdam, click here.

Getting There

After having to get a day train rather than a night train (read our messed up train journey catastrophe on my Amsterdam post), we arrived in Berlin at half 1 in the afternoon. This meant that we were missing out on half of our first day in Berlin. Berlin HBF train station is very modern looking and really big. When we arrived it was very stuffy, muggy and the sun was rather bright! We got a taxi to our hotel which wasn't too far of a journey so the price was rather cheap. However, our taxi driver was a bit odd and kept saying "What the shit!" over and over. When we got near to our hotel the driver realised that the road to our hotel was shut off and guarded by police (we're not sure why) so he had to pull over and let us walk the rest of the distance. Thankfully it was short!

Hotel

When we booked this hotel we didn't realise it was a 5* until we actually got there! The hotel we stayed in was Hotel Palace Berlin which must have been a very cheap price for a 5* hotel because somehow us 2 travellers with a limited budget could afford it! The place looked so posh that we felt very out of place and were worried we somehow had got the wrong hotel. There was even a bellboy to carry our heavy backpacks to our room and open the door for us every time we left or came in! Our hotel room was also amazing with a big double bed that was a lot comfier than the beds we had in our previous hotel in Amsterdam. Furthermore there was mood lighting that changed colours in the bed frame which we had a giggle at! But our favourite thing about this hotel was probably the spa...there was a swimming pool and hot tub which was open until 10pm each night! We used this each night between 9-10pm and it was so nice to relax and have it to ourselves. The staff were very friendly and overall we just could not stop laughing at how we managed to end up at a posh 5* hotel without even realising. We didn't pay to eat any meals there, we ate out the whole time, so I can't speak for that. Location wise it was right next to a large shopping area as well as very close to bus stops, including the bus stop for our sight seeing bus. I recommend it and would love to go back there.

Transport

Konzerthaus Berlin

Likewise to Amsterdam, we travelled around on a City sightseeing bus. We got a 48 hour ticket and started this on our second day. These are good as a tourist because they take you to all the main landmarks and sights whilst giving you a map and an audio tour. You get to learn a lot about the history and can get picked up near your hotel.

We didn't use any public transport but bikes seem to be popular. Not quite as popular as Amsterdam but it still seems like something you can rent to do.

Things To Do

On our first day we were a bit flustered. Because of our train mishap from Amsterdam to Berlin we had missed half of our first day which we had originally planned to do sightseeing with. We tried to go out after we had gotten to our hotel but it started thundering and raining! So our first day was a bit of a wash out.

However, our second day we took full advantage of. We hopped on to our Sightseeing Bus and made our way to Brandenburger Tor (also known as Brandenburg Gate) which is a magnificent monument from the 18th century which has played various roles in German history. Afterwards we made our way to the Reichstag building which opened in 1894 and had acted as Parliament. If you studied History Modern World in Britain like I did you will probably remember this building from learning about Nazi Germany! When we were done there we stopped off at the Berlin Wall East Side Gallery. The Berlin Wall closed the border to West Berlin many years ago but now the East Side is covered in beautiful artwork made by artists all over the world; representing freedom. It's definitely one to check out!

On our last day we did some more tourist sightseeing. We travelled to Checkpoint Charlie which was the best known checkpoint for crossing the Berlin Wall between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. It is a good opportunity for a photo although the fast food logos behind it kind of take away the atmosphere of seeing something famous in German history. To further our knowledge we then went to the Checkpoint Charlie Museum which is next to it where you can learn all about the Cold War and how people attempted to cross the border. If you weren't allowed to cross you could get arrested or even shot so people came up with many creative and imaginative ways to get across! After that we took a little walk and found a large fragment of the Berlin Wall with a large timeline around it explaining the history surrounding it.

Shopping also seems good in Berlin as there was plenty of shops nearby our hotel. They have a H&M and I bought a long t-shirt dress with skeletons on. We didn't go there but KaDeWe wasn't far away which is the largest department store in Europe and has 8 floors. They've got designer brands aplenty as well as 2 floors dedicated to food. If you're a big fan of retail therapy this is certainly one to see.

Food & Drink

On our first evening we went to an Italian restaurant called L'Osteria which was literally just across the road from our hotel. They do HUGE pizzas! Originally we both asked for a pizza each but the waitress warned us how big they are so we decided to go for half a pizza each. I went for the vegetable one and the lady was right, the half size was just enough for us! For pudding we had the amazing ice cream and strawberries above with strawberry sauce. The ice cream was delicious as it was chocolate with white chocolate inside. We liked the restaurant so much we came back here on our last day and had the same meal! It was a fairly cheap price but decent quality food so was excellent for our budgets.

On our second day for dinner we went to Vapiano which was an interesting new experience for us! Vapiano is again, Italian, and you actually get a card that tracks how much you have to pay. You go upstairs and line up with a tray where you then go up to a chef and tell them what you want and they make it. You get to choose the type of pasta you want, what you want on it and then they cook it right there in front of you. When it's done you place the card on a scanner and it adds the meal to your card. It was pretty cool seeing the chef cook your food and they like to have a friendly chat which was nice! Again, this was a budget friendly meal.

For breakfast and lunch we only went to cafes and bought shop food as we were budgeting. Nearby our hotel was a Dunkin' Donuts where you could buy pastries, and of course, doughnuts, and by the Brandenburger Tor we were able to get a drink and a sandwich from Starbucks.

From a vegetarian point of view there wasn't a time where we struggled to find vegetarian food. However, although we didn't struggle for food we also didn't see a lot of variety and instead had to stick to the safe option of Italian. If I were to go to Berlin again I'd definitely make sure I researched any vegetarian restaurants first!

First Sleeper Train Experience

Blurry photo but I wanted to show you what inside a double sleeper looks like

After Berlin we were then travelling to Paris. As part of this journey we had to catch an overnight train to Mannheim which was a sleeper train. We chose a double sleeper which was a room for just the two of us with a bunk bed, a sink and a mirror. I slept on the top bed and there is a net on the side to stop you from falling out! Sleeping in a bed on a train was a weird experience. I found I could fall asleep but kept waking up at multiple times in the night. Inside the train is very quiet as everyone else is sleeping so all you can hear is the train running on the track. Before the journey begins a member of staff comes to your room and asks you what time you want to get up so they can set off an alarm in your room which is helpful as you don't have to worry about missing your stop! We arrived at Mannheim at 04:40 and sat in the station until 06:40 so we could catch our next train to Paris. It was tiring but an overnight train meant that we didn't have to miss a day in one of our countries and also helps us save money on accommodation. It also meant that we didn't have to sit down for hours bored out of our minds as we could sleep through the majority of the time instead.

Final Thoughts

Deutscher Dom

Despite losing half a day in Berlin due to unforeseen circumstances we still managed to get lots of sightseeing done. I enjoyed Berlin and although on the first day it was raining the rest of the days were sunny and hot. If you're interested in history and particularly German history there is so much to see and learn! You really get a sense of how different things were years ago when it can be difficult to imagine how a city could be so divided. It seemed like 3 days was enough for us and we didn't miss anything that we wanted to see.

Have you been to Berlin? Also, look out for my upcoming travel posts: the next one will be Paris.

Empties #14

I normally publish an Empties post once a month but I forgot to publish this in August- whoopsy! I've got a bunch of skincare empties so let's see what I've got:

I've finally finished my Soap & Glory Clean On Me Shower Gel! I've been using this for god knows how many months so I feel like I've achieved something finishing this! It doesn't really have a particular smell, just a classic creamy body wash smell. I love Soap & Glory products whether it is bath and shower or make up!

Another Impulse body spray has been gotten through too and this time it is 'Tease, Red Fruits & Woods'. These always appear in my Empties posts and to be honest I don't normally find that they have very distinguishable scents so I don't really mind what I use...as long as it makes me smell better!

As a long term fan of the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water I thought I'd try the newer Pure Active one which is supposedly for combination to oily & sensitive skin. To be honest I found the original one was already perfect for my sensitive skin so I don't really see the difference between them. Either way it's good though.

I've had this Bath & Body Mimosa & Violet body spray for years and never used it because I wasn't a big enough of a fan of the scent to spray it all over my body. However, because I find the scent quite fresh I instead used it as a room spray! Once or twice a day I'd spray it in my room and it would just make it smell a bit better. I liked using it when it was hot because it seemed to make things cooler. I don't really know how true and scientific that is but that's what it seemed to do anyway.

Cotton buds: boy do I make use for these! I am constantly buying cotton buds because I use them everyday for make up. I use it to clean up eyeshadow excess, straighten the edges of my lipstick and eyeliner as well as getting foundation off of my eyebrow hairs. I like to get ear piercings a lot too so I need them for cleaning my new piercing. Cotton buds are essential for me! I wrote a blog post on various ways to use cotton buds ages ago.

Finally, I used up the Superdrug Tea Tree facial wash. I always use a tea tree face wash for my acne prone skin and the past few months I've been using a foaming cleanser one from The Body Shop. However, when I went travelling in June and holiday in July I needed a non-foaming one that I could decant into a travel bottle so I bought this Superdrug one! It doesn't dry out my skin and I know I'll go for it every time I go travelling now.

See you for Empties #15!
